Students attend live classes for 3 hours a day, starting 09.30 in the morning.
If you live in a timezone to the East of the UK then your child will begin classes later in the day.

MONDAY - THURSDAY CLASSES

Lesson 1 - 09.30 -10.30 GMT Then morning or first BREAK, half an hour.
Lesson 2 - 11.00-12.00 GMT Then the LONG BREAK one hour.
It's important to have long breaks to refresh the brain for real work, and encourage getting up and moving about.
Lesson 3 - 13.00 - 14.00 GMT Classes END 14.00 GMT.

After school on Monday and Tuesday we provide a supervised Homework Class for the few students who have not completed all the previous week's work. We achieve 99% homework completion over the whole school.

FRIDAY is kept free to support better family life. Also healthy exercise or personal interests like art, drama, music etc. However there IS homework to do on Fridays because almost all homework, except for exam students, is due in by Friday midnight.

NOTES.
MONDAY'S Philosophy & Society starts each week with a different topic, led by the school Heads. It is designed to broaden the standard subjects, as well as draw the whole school community together at the start of the week in a larger learning group.
Discussion can be heated! but is strongly supervised and guided to be courteous. We have looked at a huge variety of subjects from Cooking to Confucianism, Economics of the music industry, Modern Art, Classical Ethics, the Surveillance Society, Animal Rights, Psychology of the Subconscious and the Aims of Education. Students are invited to suggest or help prepare topics.

TUESDAY'S HELP! is a support session where we help the newer students learn how things are done in First College, or issues of Social Skills such as not disrupting or distracting a class.

TUESDAY'S STORIES examines how stories are constructed with emphasis on the film and gaming genres which are frequently the most familiar stories today's children know. The focus is the logic and technique of storytelling. At the higher levels we teach more conventional Literature classes.

WEDNESDAY'S ENGLISH is a strict training in literacy, including the obvious punctuation, sentencing etc., but also a strong, structured essay technique, and college level referencing of sources.

THURSDAY'S FRENCH or SPANISH are two groups run independently of all other classes so students can choose what is preferred.

ALL HOMEWORK is due in by Friday midnight. rose marker

The site is being newly designed (May 2011).
This side menu will soon have links to lots of updated pages with details on each subject we teach.

First College UK is a family business. It was created to educate our son, who gained his exams, then went on to become a teacher in the school. As well as the family there are four other teachers making a team of seven in all. See ABOUT OUR TEACHERS.
