SUMMER CAMPS  COURSESThe traditional educational year was based around families working on farms who needed the children to work during the summer to get the all-important harvest safely in. This is no longer relevant to most modern families. It is important for Students to have full relaxation time in holidays but many families find the standard holidays too long and young people end up getting bored. There is also a problem with disrupting the continuity of Students' learning: returning after a lengthy hliday period usually means teachers have to do a lot of revision and reminding. First College therefore offers short summer courses for intensive support or specialist interest. Courses are two or three weeks long so that each family can book courses and still arrange periods of holiday as well. It may be possible to offer some "family" courses, to include other members of the family in the learning community. Please note the fee for Summer Courses will be separate, and additional to the standard school fees. CAMPS (UK)Our Camps are social events, not residential study sessions. They are small (5 - 10 families) and costs are very reasonable. The atmosphere is practical, peaceful and fun, with some organised activities balanced by lots of relaxation time for parents! Camps are held in one of three private sites in Wales (the Preseli Mountains), Somerset (near Wells and Glastonbury) or the Forest of Dean (a farm camp on the edge of the forest). There may be possibilities of international camps later on.  |
