Biology, Chemistry and Physics (including Astronomy and Earth Sciences)
IT/ Computing Applications
Introductory Sciences will be cycled over a two to three year period, covering but not limited to the main requirements for SATs in the UK. The course will emphasise fun, including many (safe) home-performed experiments. These sometimes require getting inexpensive and easily findable materials for the students' use!
The main classes will visit topics in Biology, Chemistry and Physics (including Astronomy and Earth Sciences) over a two-year cycle. Exam Tutorial Students focus the IGCSE / Baccalaureate systems.
The aims of the Science courses are to build up Students' scientific knowledge and understanding, applying scientific concepts to solve problems. Where possible, problems of a practical nature will be given; or else, video clips from websites will be accessed and displayed.
The practical exercises are the mainstay of the Sciences provision. On average the Students should expect a practical exercise every two or three sessions (depending on the particular part of the curriculum, and progress through the material).
Student led teaching is an important consideration, together with family consultation. Requests for extra tailor-made topics will be considered, and adopted if enough of the Students are in favour.
IT/ COMPUTING APPLICATIONS
Self-teaching exercises in the use of word-processing applications and spreadsheets are planned for the
short- and medium-term.
Self-teaching exercises in presentation software, website design, and design and use of databases could
be provided in the longer-term, if there is a demand.
A bespoke Touch Typing software package can be provided on request, and exercises to encourage the
students to learn how to touch type are planned for the medium-term.
